This is just a reminder that you don’t have to buy expensive to make big waves! There are a lot of diamonds in the rough you just have to know what to look for!
The Kentucky Derby winner “Medina Spirit” was bred by Gail Rice, a 59-year-old self-described “backyard breeder” from Ocala, Fla. She said “I always said I wanted to sell a million-dollar horse,” she said. “And I did, for a $1,000.” This horse was sold for a $1000 as a yearling in a horse sale after Gail and her husband filed for divorce. It was then sold as a 2-year-old for $35,000. Eventually ending up in Bob Baffert`s hands where he won the Kentucky Derby with 12 : 1 odds.
